Placement & Internship Policies

Student Activities

To enhance the students’ confidence, leadership qualities, attitude, management, communication and creative skills, the institute encourages a variety of activities and requires the election of student representatives as members of various councils. In keeping with the tradition of IITs, this initiative also provides the student community with an opportunity to exercise their autonomy in a responsible manner. Each of these secretaries works in coordination with a set of students to initiate and manage activities in that specific domain.

Extra-curricular Activities

The students, in order to pursue their interests in a variety of domains, have formed the following societies: Society for Publication and Communication Skills Development, Music Society, Dance Society, Dramatics Society, Society for Literary Activities and the Hindi Club.

To keep the recreation levels up and the spirits lively, the students have organized various intra-institute events in such a small time, most notable of which are, CricLeague (A cricket tournament) and an Inter-hostel Championship.

– Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Among Youth.
The student body at the institute has been organizing cultural events in collaboration with SPIC MACAY over the last two years and plans to open a chapter at the campus soon.

Cultural Fest- Zeitgeist

Zeitgeist is the annual cultural festival of IIT Ropar and was held for the first time in September 2010 and attracted participation from colleges in far-off places such as Delhi, Roorkee, Mandi, and from many places in Punjab and Haryana.
The fest was a huge success and brought out the creative and management skills of the students. The student body plans to organize the 2011 version of the event this November.

Founded in year 2011 by students of the pioneering batch of the IIT, the 2008 batch, the society aims to give an official face to the activities and interests of the students and faculty, act as an interface between the institute and other academic institutions and the industry by means of lectures, talks, industrial visits and workshops, and organize engineering design competitions for students.

Industrial and Educational Visits

The students are constantly exposed to practical industrial experiences. Apart from industrial internship, which is a mandatory part of the curriculum, industrial and educational visits are periodically organized for the students so that they get acclimatized to the industrial environment and the working of engineering plants, and simultaneously getting to know the latest trends and practices observed in the industry.
