The Center for Biomedical Engineering (CBME) was established on 25 October 2014 by superseding the Biomedical Engineering (BME) program, established earlier in May 2013.
The main goal of CBME is to meet the challenges of affordable healthcare facing the nation by encouraging research and entrepreneurship in interdisciplinary areas, encompassing engineering, medical sciences, and natural sciences. The center has following focus areas of research: Biomedical Imaging; Medical Devices; Cancer Diagnostics and Therapy; Biomaterials; and Tissue Engineering. Because of the diverse research backgrounds of our faculty, there is a strong thrust on interdisciplinary research at the center. Going forward, the center seeks collaboration with national and international universities/institutes and partnership with industries to realize its goals.
As far as academic programs are concerned, the center is offering BTech (minor), MTech, and PhD in Biomedical Engineering degrees. Since its inception, center is organizing the Biomedical Engineering Seminar Series and supporting summer interns / undergraduate research projects for students at the institute and from outside of it.
Note for UG/PG students: If you are an UG/PG student at the institute and interested in knowing more about academic programs and/or research facilities at CBME, please visit our office in room 340, next to the central library. The center also encourages you to use the existing laboratory facilities for your research work, with prior permission of the HOD, CBME.
Note for faculty candidates: If you are interested in a faculty position at CBME, please visit the ‘jobs’ link provided on the top. We also encourage you to visit our institute to give research and teaching seminars, and informally interact with faculty and students of CBME.
