Dr. Jitendra Prasad jprasad.jpg
Assistant Professor
Department of Mechanical Engineering

Biography

After graduating with a B.Tech.(Hons.) from IIT Kharagpur in 1997, Dr. Jitendra Prasad worked with an Indian multinational (viz. Indian Register of Shipping) at Mumbai for 4 years. He then did his M.Eng. at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. With a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University (MSU), he worked as a postdoctoral fellow in Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine at the University of Washington at Seattle. In April 2011, Dr. Prasad joined IIT Ropar as an Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering.

Over the period of two years at NTU Singapore, Dr. Prasad taught two laboratory courses – engineering mechanics and machine design to first and second year undergraduate students, respectively. At Michigan State University, he taught control systems laboratory to undergraduate seniors for one year. At the University of Washington in Seattle, he taught finite element analysis (in the context of computational methods in biomechanics) to graduate students in Winter 2009.

Dr. Prasad's research is focused on computational engineering applied to design, analysis, innovation and discovery. In particular, he is interested in areas spanning applied mechanics, engineering design, optimization, bone biology and biomechanics. His interest in computational engineering is motivated by the fact that computer simulations are integral to current scientific research and development; computer simulations can explore areas that are otherwise inaccessible to traditional approaches.
