  From Department Head
Thank you for visiting the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Ropar. Mechanical Engineering – a core engineering discipline – plays a central role in creation of the materialistic world, and we at IIT Ropar present a platform broad and wide for the inculcation of these core findings, and we proudly announce the completion of ten years of inception, growth and establishment.

The department offers undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate programs enriched in core learnings, challenges and opportunities. With more than 150 PhD scholars, three specializations in Masters’ programs, industry oriented doctoral programs and with the direct PhD program for outstanding bachelor students, the department has grown large to support talent and to cater to the societal requirements. Even through this journey of merely ten years, the state-of-the-art infrastructure is in full utilization in the department. Multidisciplinary group works, global integration and industrial problem-solving are inherent parts of the course structures.

The research works at IIT Ropar Mechanical Engineering is contributing strongly in medical discoveries, sustainable fuels and energy resources, intelligent automation, micro- and nanosciences, and advanced manufacturing processes. In the pages that follow, you will read many creative ways our faculty, alumni and students are bringing out their talent, passion and interests in exploration of manufacturing and maintenance art, in designing next generation equipment, engines, fuels, robotic mechanisms, bio-inspired engineering and many more. Regular interaction with industry through collaborative projects, course requirements and general discussions on advancements in technological aspects develop an environment closer to the practical essence of engineering. Regular activities are arranged and encouraged in the department for indigenous product development, skills enhancement and interdisciplinary interactions.

I feel obliged to welcome you and to further respond to any of your query or clarity
