Metallurgical and Materials Engineering

Welcome to the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, IIT Ropar

The Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at IIT Ropar was established in November 2017 by upgrading the Center for Materials and Energy Engineering. Currently, the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering offers B.Tech. and PhD programs. The Department has faculty members in all the major areas of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. The focus areas of the Department are Physical Metallurgy, Extractive Metallurgy, Mechanical Metallurgy, Energy Materials, Functional Materials and related areas. The Department provides a platform for interdisciplinary studies with academia and industry. The curriculum is designed to encourage innovative thinking to enable students to be Industry ready. IIT Ropar has devised a very flexible curriculum to provide the best possible multi-disciplinary and in-depth learning. As a part of the B.Tech Program in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering a student may opt from the following five options:

  • 1. B.Tech. Basic
  • 2. B.Tech with Minor (Minor in any other discipline than the Major discipline) Options: Computer Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mathematics, etc.
  • 3. B.Tech. with Concentration (Concentration areas will be within the Major discipline) Options: Materials Processing, Functional Materials, Energy Materials, Nanotechnology, Computational Materials Engineering, Materials Testing and Characterization, etc.
  • 4. B.Tech. with Honors
  • 5. B.Tech with Additional Internship

The Department welcomes original thinkers and dedicated individuals to be a part of this symbiotic environment and positively influence the world of Metallurgy and Materials. The Department encourages student-faculty interaction. Each batch of B.Tech. students is assigned to a Faculty Advisor and a student is encouraged to discuss all academic/professional matters with his/her Advisor. JEE Aspirants can find more information regarding this discipline on https://www.iitrpr.ac.in/mme/faqs
