IIT Ropar has an inherent strategic advantage of being located in the vicinity of military commands. The institute now has the unique distinction of establishing a Center of Excellence (CoE) for Studies and Applied Research in Defence and Security working closely with the armed forces to address the chasm existing between defence forces, academia and defence industries. With 11 departments comprising over 180 faculty members, 3 centers and a technology incubation ecosystem, all in pursuit of excellence, the institute resolves to become the global hub of next-gen Defence and Security Research. The CoE operates at the convergence of strategic vision, operational excellence and technological expertise for the future thought leaders of Indian Defence and Security establishments.
It also aims to address the void in defence and defence related MSMEs, and aims to promote a security industrial complex within the northern region. The Center actively engages with multiple ministries and departments, private and public sector organizations, and strives to contribute to the Honourable Prime Minister’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
