Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University was established under an Act of J&K State Legislature in 1999 as fully residential and technical university, the first of its kind in J&K. Recognized by UGC under Section 2(f) & 12(B) of the UGC Act of 1956, the university receives funding from UGC. The university ranked 31st among Architecture Institutions, 151-200 among Engineering Institutions and 51-100 amongst top Universities in National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF 2024) declared by the MHRD, Govt. of India.
As a Spoke Institute in the DREAMS consortium, with IIT Ropar serving as the Hub,Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) will play a pivotal role in advancing future research and innovation in advanced materials. The institute will focus on experimental studies in areas such as nano-lubrication, tribology, additive manufacturing, and 3D-printed polymeric composites, thereby contributing to the development of high-performance materials and components for industrial as well as biomedical applications. The group from SMVDU will primarily focus on new material development and characterization of these materials. SMVDU will leverage its expertise in advanced materials characterization, energy applications, phase change materials, luminescent 8materials, nanoparticle synthesis, and thermal analysis to drive interdisciplinary research and innovation. The university will actively mentor students and young researchers, building capacity in cutting-edge technologies and preparing the next generation of scientists and engineers. Collaboration will remain a cornerstone of SMVDU’s involvement, with close coordination with the Hub and other Spoke institutes to facilitate knowledge sharing, joint research projects, workshops, and training programs. The institute will also contribute significantly to technology translation, enabling patent filings, publication of high-impact research articles, and dissemination of research outcomes for societal and industrial benefit.
