Abstract

It appears that after trade liberalization corruption has increased significantly in high growth developing economies like India and China. We review the existing literature in economics looking at the relation between trade liberalization and corruption. We also build up a novel argument to hypothesize that in persistently corrupt countries like India and China the technological advancement of an industry may determine the extent of trade liberalization in it and the amount of corruption associated with it.
