The Indian economy witnessed a paradigm shift in public policy in the year 1991, which was a watershed in the economic history of the nation. A shift from a controlled and regulated economy towards a market oriented economy brought about major changes in the business environment of the country. It unleashed entrepreneurial freedom in the country and brought about both opportunities and challenges for Indian business and consumers. The period from 1991 to 2015 has been seen ups and downs in economic environment for business in India. After giving a backdrop of economic reforms a review of the reform programme will be taken up in the presentation.
