Rupnagar

Situated at the banks of the Sutlej river, Ropar stands today as a fast growing city with a rich historical and religious heritage. Established in the 11th Century by Raja Rokeshar, the city continues to grow and is still energetic and vibrant as ever.

Ropar is one of the most important Indus Valley sites, being the first excavation site of independent India. The excavations, open for the general public, have given a detailed insight into the lives and the culture of the people living in the Indus Valley civilisation, and they also reveal a cultural sequence from Harappan to mediaeval times. Other places of tourist interest include the Nangal Dam and Gurudwara Tibbi Sahib.
