Services and support

We provide the following IT related services to IIT Ropar users:

Email accounts on iitrpr.ac.in domain.
LDAP account for allowing access to IIT Ropar applications and services.
VPN access to IIT Ropar networks.
Management of the following central IT services: networks (LAN/WiFi), servers in our data centers, IP phones, IP based surveillance.
Technical support for AV systems in lecture halls and meeting/seminar rooms.
Management of IIT Ropar website.
Technical support for the software that we have developed.

We DO NOT handle the following:

Operating the AV systems in meetings/lectures/events.
Data entry into any applications.
Repair of IT hardware.
Software development (including websites) for departments/individuals/groups.

Overall Expected Turnaround Time

The time given below is tentative and will be applicable once the engineer starts troubleshooting (after work assignment). Usually, the calls will be attended in 24-48 hours. Installation of OS:
Windows + Office: 1 hour for installation after the creation of bootable disk
Linux: Approx. 30 minutes after the creation of the bootable media Printer Repair:
Driver Installation: Approx. 30-60 minutes
Cartridge Change: 10-15 minutes
Other Faults: depends on the nature of the faults Network:
LAN Port: Usually if it is from the user end (like IP Address not getting assigned) then upto 10 minutes, if it is from the switch end then depends on the nature of the fault
WiFi: Entirely depends on the nature of the call
Sites not working: Usually, 15-20 minutes if it is from our end otherwise depends on ISP (if the site is blocked from ISP end).
Installation of new switches: 5-6 hours including configuration. Servers:
Installation of server and OS: 3-4 hours after call assignments
Creation of containers: 1-2 hours after call assignments Email-id’s and Group-id’s:
1 hours after call assignments Creation of Webforms:
1.5 to 2 hours after setting up all the modules. Webpage Creation/Updation:
Depends upon the content/Design requested.(Approx. Time 3-4). Moodle:
Quiz/Course Creation, updation,replication : 1-2 hours after call assignments.

Getting Started: Faculty, Staff and Students

Introduction

IIT Ropar provides students with various Computer Facilities which include Email, Web Browsing, Moodle, AIMS portal etc. It is suggested to use these facilities responsibly for your and IIT Ropar security.
The following information will be useful to you for accessing LDAP login and password:

LDAP Details

For students : loginid is Your_Entry_Number. For faculty and staff login id is : Email Prefix.
Your default LDAP password will be sent on your IITRPR Email id.
If for some reason your initial password does not work, please contact to itteam@iitrpr.ac.in.
To recover forgot password, Please click on the forgot password option available on the https://www.iitrpr.ac.in/cair/ webpage. A password reset link will be sent on your iitrpr email id.

Updating LDAP Details

For LDAP password update/reset , it is recommended that you visit: https://www.iitrpr.ac.in/cair/ and do the following:

Your LDAP password will be sent on your IITRPR Email id.
If for some reason your initial password does not work, please contact to itteam@iitrpr.ac.in.

Web Browsing and Email Account Access

Abiding by the terms of use of IIT Ropar IT Resources by accepting the IIT Ropar IT Policy - This will enable you to browse the web and access your IIT Ropar Email Account (Webmail)
- Using Wired Network
- Using Wireless
For browsing IIT Ropar Internal service/websites from outside of IIT Ropar campus you need to connect through VPN (Transit Campus | Main Campus).

Moodle (medh Servers)

Moodle is a learning management system (LMS) which is used for hosting the online classes/Quizzes. Access the moodle servers by follow moodle instruction page by below link.

AIMS

Academic Informaion Management System (AIMS) is a portal used for managing students academics. Instructor can create/offer courses,submit grades etc. Students can register in the course,check their academics,submit fees details.

Meeting Room Booking

Central Booking Sysytem (CBS) is booking system to book lecture hall/ seminar hall of IIT Ropar. The IIT Ropar users can use their LDAP credentials to login into the CBS and book the classroom/seminars hall for both the campus Transit and Main Campus.

DSpace is an institutional Repository of IIT Ropar. It preserves the research publications and Ph.D. Theses. It is easy and open access to all type of digital content.

IIT Ropar Network

IIT Ropar has a Local area network, wireless network with IP telephony to cater the needs of students, faculty and staff in academic as well as residential areas. The complete LAN solution has 3 layers architecture. 10 Gigabit Core with redundancy, Dual homed Distribution layer with redundancy and dual PoE (Power on Ethernet) enabled Access layer. High speed and uninterrupted Internet access is provided across the campus to everyone through multiple ISP (Internet Service Provider) leased lines provided by BSNL(2 Gbps), and Vodafone idea (2 Gbps). For any network related issue network support is available 9 AM to 6 PM.

VPN Service

A virtual private network (VPN) extends a private network across a public network and enables users to send and receive data across shared or public networks as if their computing devices were directly connected to the private network. Please visit the respective campus link for VPN access.
