                <text>IIT Ropar held its 8th Convocation Ceremony at the permanent campus. The Chief Guest was Shri A. S. Kiran Kumar, Former Chairman of ISRO. He delivered the convocation address highlighting his contributions to India’s space missions. His notable work includes the design of Electro-Optical Imaging Sensors from Bhaskara TV to the Mars Orbiter Mission. The event was attended by over 1500 guests, including students, parents, faculty, and alumni. Prof. Sarit K. Das, Director, presented the Institute’s achievements and student awards. A total of 240 degrees were conferred this year. Degree breakup: 113 B.Tech., 56 M.Sc Programme , 37 M.Tech., 6 MS (Research), and 28 Ph.D. President of India Gold Medal was awarded to Suveer Kumar (Mechanical Engineering). Director’s Gold Medal went to Aditya Gupta (Computer Science and Engineering). Institute Silver Medals were given to students from B.Tech., M.Tech., and M.Sc. programmes across departments. The ceremony reflected IIT Ropar’s growing excellence in research, innovation, and academic distinction.</text>

                <text>The 9th Annual Convocation of IIT Ropar was conducted virtually on December 4, 2020. The ceremony was pre-recorded and streamed on YouTube due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Chief Guest was Prof. K. VijayRaghavan, Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India. A total of 318 students were awarded degrees during the event. Prof. Sarit K. Das, Director, presented the Annual Report and congratulated the institute community. He appreciated the efforts that ensured the convocation was held on schedule despite the pandemic. Prof. VijayRaghavan, in his address, discussed post-COVID global challenges. He emphasized the role of scientists and engineers in rebuilding and innovating for society. He urged the youth to take responsibility for environmental conservation and climate action. Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, Chairman, Board of Governors, also addressed the gathering. He praised IIT Ropar’s strong academic and research ecosystem. The virtual convocation highlighted IIT Ropar’s resilience, innovation, and academic excellence amid global uncertainty.</text>

&#13;
BAJA SAE India is a national engineering design competition for undergraduate students, focusing on the design of rugged, all-terrain vehicles. &#13;

IIT Ropar's Role: IIT Ropar has served as a host for the second leg of the competition in different years. The institute's role includes providing the infrastructure and event management support for the dynamic and endurance rounds. &#13;

Static Evaluation: The competition starts with static rounds where teams present their designs, cost analysis, and marketing strategies. &#13;

Dynamic Evaluation: This includes tests on factors like acceleration, braking, and maneuverability. &#13;
Endurance Race: The finale is a four-hour endurance race on a challenging off-road track, which in the past has included elements like muddy pits, cliffs, and slopes. &#13;

Surappa in the august presence of Prof. N. Sathyamurthy, Director, IISER, Mohali and Members of BoG, IIT Ropar. Mr. A. K Sarin, Prof. A. Sridhran and Mr. S. Ramanujam (Members of BWC) and other officials welcomed Mr. D. S. Kapur, ADG of CPWD and Mr. Harnam Singh, the Chief Engineer of CPWD. Mr. S.R. Sikka presented the model of new campus to senior officials and institute’s consultant for this project. faculty members, students and staff participated in the ceremony of unveiling of foundation plaque.</text>

                <text>Professor Rajeev Ahuja is a Professor of computational Materials science at Uppsala University, Sweden. Currently, he is the Director of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar, India serving from April 2021. He was also holding the additional charge of Director of IIT Guwahati, India from Nov. 2023 to May 2024. He is one of the most highly cited researchers as well as top 5 materials Scientist in Sweden &amp; India. He has done his Ph.D. from I.I.T. Roorkee in India in 1992. Same year he has joined Uppsala University, Sweden as post-doctoral fellow. He became Professor in 2007 at Uppsala University, Sweden. His main area of interest is material science with focus on energy such Batteries, Hydrogen Storage &amp; production, sensors as well high-pressure physics. He has published more than 1200 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals H-Index of 106, i-10 index 817 &amp; no. of citations more than 52147. Dr. Ahuja has supervised 30 PhD students and more than 35 postdocs. He has been elected FRSC UK, APS-Fellow by American Physical Society (APS), USA and appointed in the Advisory Board of Journal of Materials Chemistry A &amp; Materials Advances from Royal Society of Chemistry (England). He is Associate Editor of Nano Energy. He was also awarded Beller Lectureship for the APS March Meeting 2017. He been awarded the Wallmark prize for 2011 from KVA (Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences), and has previously received the Eder Lilly &amp; Sven Thureus prize and the Benzelius prize from KVS. Dr. Ahuja is an elected member of the Swedish Royal Society of Sciences (KVS). He has been awarded Best Alumnus award from IIT Roorkee, India for excellence in research for 2021.&#13;

IIT Ropar's role: IIT Ropar, under the Union Ministry of Education, hosted the event and presented on research and innovation through collaboration. &#13;

Related initiatives: On the sidelines, IIT Ropar also showcased its collaborative biodiversity sensor project with Syngenta and Fraunhofer, which aims to monitor insect populations on farms. </text>
