Library Catalogue
An Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) is an online portal of Library Automation System used to search the library resources and members transactions. OPAC is user friendly and accessible anywhere, any time.  Users can search the books by entering various fields like Title, Author, Subject, Keyword, Accession &  Class Numbers etc and track the physical location of books in the Library. In OPAC users can create their account and set their password.  Users can get the information about the availability of the book(s) in the Library, books on their possession, due date(s), they can also track their account to know the transactions done, overdue fine accumulated and they can reserve the books online. OPAC saves the time of the user as it provides complete details of the library resources available. Users can search books using OPAC through their smartphone and tablets also.
How to locate Mechanical Engineering books in the library?
The Library, IIT Ropar uses Dewey Decimal Classification system and simple author code to classify books. 

A class number is a simple number used to identify & locate books in the library. 

Example: 620.163 for Mechanical Metallurgy in MechanicalEngineering.

An author code is simple letters used to identify titles written by a different author, i.e,  first three letters of the last name of he of the first author / first letter of the last name of the second author (if any).

A collaborative electronic book repository supported by 60 academic and research libraries. It provides free access to books, serials, standards, theses, etc.
 
Internet Archive is a nonprofit digital library providing free public access to a collection of digitized materials, including websites, music moving images and public domain books.
 
Project Gutenberg offers over 46,000 free ebooks, user can choose among free e-pub format books, free kindle books, download them or read them online.
 
A digitization project of books was initiated by Carnegie Mellon University. It provides access to over 1.5 million e-books to the readers.
