Mentoring & Evaluation

Mentoring:

Volunteers from industry and academia for regular intellectual support and guidance.

Evaluation
  • 1. At the end of internship, all teams will be asked to make the presentation on their work along with the submission of the detailed project report and regular progress log file by individual members.

  • 2. The evaluation will be based on the submitted report/regular progress log file by individual members and presentation in front of experts from Partner Industry and Academia as well as other team members and all the applicants of the internship carnival who couldn’t get selected.

  • 3. The final presentations will be aired on the public platforms.

  • 4. One team for every project will be announced winner of the competition on the basis of their comprehensive performance.

  •

Award and Recognition:
  • 1.All members of the winning teams will be offered paid internships for a duration of 6 months at IIT Ropar as per their academic schedule and convenience.

  • 2. Winning team will be offered travel and stay at IIT Ropar to explore the possibilities of future collaboration and meeting the mentor faculty members.

  • 3. 5 out of 10 winner teams may be supported with a seed grant up to Rs. 10 lakhs for running a startup.

  •

Technology verticals and (Tentative) list of projects:

(Note: In all projects future fuel types, IoT/CPS systems may be implemented.)

(Swarm robotics is a new approach to the coordination of multirobot systems which consist of large numbers of mostly simple physical robots. They are independent and can interact with each other and the environment. In this project, you are supposed to propose a design and network strategy of swarm robots for the applications in the domain of agriculture. One of the features that is expected is Decentralized coordination – The robots communicate with each other and with the environment to make the final decision.)

(The system consists of a large number of spray nozzles, which are connected through multiple pipe links to a common pipe manifold. The water is forced to leave each nozzle in fine sprays and falls through the surrounding air. There are different types though. Spray aerators are usually efficient for oxygen addition. Normally spray aeration is successful in increasing the dissolved oxygen of the water and is applicable for fisheries. An aerator is in order which is solar powered, in built ammonia and temperature sensors, IoT based control for remote operations.)

(The world-wide demand for agricultural products is rapidly increasing due to the growing population, labor shortage becomes a limiting factor for agricultural production. Further automation of agriculture is an important solution to tackle these challenges. Some of the harvesters that are in practice are tree shakers for tree based crops and harvesting robots for soil based crops. We expect to receive entries for state-of-the-art autonomous harvesters for tree or plant based crops.)

(Urbanization is increasing faster than even particularly in Indian scenario. This is where there is a need to convert the balconies and traces to grow greens and maintenance through the technology intervention. While providing the proper soluble salts and pH levels are important in urban farming systems, one should not overlook the significance of maintaining the optimum temperature, oxygen concentration and microbe level in the nutrient solution. In this project is it expected from the students that they).

(Farmers use a variety of refrigeration systems to extend the shelf life of perishable materials. Cooling not only reduces the potential for spoiling due to bacterial growth but also reduces humidity levels for some of the commodities. Refrigeration may also be used during sorting, processing, packaging, and storage. Fruit/vegetables/milk must be cooled quickly after the harvest; removal of heat is important for maintaining produce quality and shelf life. You're supposed to design a low cost low maintenance refrigeration system for small farmers.

(a). Fish Deboning Machine is mainly used to separate fish meat from fish bone, fish skin, fish tendon in order to raise the fish use rate and save the manpower. Existing machines are of very poor efficacy. Candidates are expected to design high efficiency machines so that the wastage of the produce can be minimized. In this machine, the food touching places should be made out of high quality stainless steel and should meet the requirements of national food hygienic standards.
(b). Indian gooseberry is known for great health benefits and goes into many ready to eat products. The participants are expected to design a high efficiency automatic Indian gooseberry deseeding machine.

(By combining the propellers of a quadcopter with an ingenious jumping mechanism, CropHoppers are able to quickly travel across fields and work for much longer time than a drone. IoT enabled crop hoppers can be operated using handheld mobile phones, it can work in-crop all season and it offers the potential to also automatically treat weeds, pests and diseases. In addition, the participants are expected to implement image processing capabilities in the hoppers to detect anomalies in the fields as a comprehensive solution for farm surveillance.)

(Hydrogen can play a major role in self-reliant rural India. Decentralised production of H2 from the locally available waste in the rural areas can provide sufficient hydrogen to drive the rural economy. In this project, at first, the team will design a 150 homes model village powered by hydrogen that is produced from local resources, transported/dispensed in an optimized way and utilized using fuel cell powered agricultural machinery and homes. As a next step, individual technology components of the hydrogen powered village will be designed and optimized using computer simulations)

(Publication distribution through the farmer-to-consumer or producer-to-consumer network system can solve a lot of issues related to public distribution which include the wastage of the food commodity, and has potential to increase the per capita income of farmers and producers. The participants are expected to create a farm-to-fork supply chain network/application where farmers/producers can register their produce and consumers can register their requirement which can be full-filled on the basis of nearest neighbour connection based distribution model.)

(The participants are expected to design a process and an IoT enabled portable hardware which can be used to decompose household bio waste.)
