Dr. Hari Vansh Rai Mittal

Assistant Professor
Dr. HVR Mittal an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at IIT Ropar, India. He obtained his PhD degree from Indian Institute of Technology Mandi at Himachal Pradesh, India (2016) and his MSc (honours) in Mathematics from Panjab University (Chandigarh – India) in 2010. From 2016 till 2021 he held assistant Professor position at IIT Palakkad, Kerala and several postdoctoral positions at University of York (UK), United Arab Emirates University (UAE), University of Southern Brittany (France) followed by King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia). His research is an interdisciplinary blend of computational fluid mechanics and numerical analysis which encompasses development and applications of new finite difference numerical schemes to complex real life problems. For instance, analysing the wake structures for flow past oscillating/non-oscillating cylinders, the rheology of deformable fluid particles like drops/bubbles in various fluid environments and detecting, tracking and forecasting of hazardous oil spills in oceans. The research outcomes are published in prestigious journals like Scientific reports (Nature), SIAM journal on Scientific Computing (JSTOR), Physics of Fluids (AIP), International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer (Elsevier), Ocean Engineering (Elsevier) etc.
