The department offers Ph.D. programs since 2010. Ph.D. program is offered in recent and emerging research areas in pure and applied mathematics. More than 60 Ph.D. scholars are actively engaged in quality research in a wide range of topics in pure and applied mathematic.
The department offers a 2-year master program in Mathematics ( M.Sc.) from the academic year 2015-2016. Admission to M.Sc. Program is through Joint Admission Test for M.Sc. (JAM). The total number of students at present is 45.
The department offers a four-year program B.Tech. in Mathematics and Computing. The program commenced in the academic year 2019–2020 and currently has a total student strength of 145. Admission to the program is through JEE (Advanced), ensuring a highly competitive and talented student cohort.
Guidelines for offering of Minor Programme
B.Tech. students can take minor in any other discipline than the major discipline. The student has to take 15 credits for the Minor Programme. Minor Programme in Mathematics is offered to the B.Tech. students from 2017 batch onwards. The credit requirements for B.Tech. with Minor Programme : 145 (Basic B.Tech.)+15 (minor credits)=160 credits.
The department offers disciplinary/interdisciplinary 4-years integrated B.Sc. – B.Ed. program from the academic year 2024-25. The current students’ strength is 7. Admission to B.Sc. – B.Ed. Program is through your score in the National Common Entrance Test (NCET).
The department also offers core and elective courses of mathematics across various other B.Tech. streams. The department attracts students and faculty members from others institutes for short-term research project through summer-internship program. The department is also looking post-doctoral fellows for their independent research at IIT Ropar.
