3rd Convocation, IIT Ropar - 15th November 2014
Description
The Third Convocation of IIT Ropar was held on November 15, 2014. The ceremony was declared open by Ms. Lila Poonawalla, Chairperson, BoG. Prof. M.K. Surappa, Director, presented the Institute’s annual report. He introduced the Chief Guest, Prof. Goverdhan Mehta, National Research Professor, University of Hyderabad. Prof. Surappa also introduced Ms. Poonawalla, Chairperson of Lila Poonawalla Foundation and former CMD, Alfa Laval-Tetra Pak India. Ms. Poonawalla congratulated graduates and discussed challenges of faculty shortage and infrastructure in new IITs. She proposed a national faculty intern programme to nurture future teachers. She expressed confidence in IIT Ropar’s multidisciplinary problem-solving environment. Prof. Mehta emphasized the role of IITs in national development and praised IIT Ropar’s progress. He highlighted the importance of quality research and industry–academia collaboration. Degrees were awarded, followed by medals to meritorious students. Ashish Jindal (EE) received the President’s Gold Medal, Somyanshu Arora (ME) the Director’s Gold Medal, and Abhisaar Sharma (CSE) and Somyanshu Arora (ME) the Institute Silver Medals.
Three batches (2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11) of Undergraduate students have earned their B.Tech. Degrees in Convocation. In addition, IIT Ropar has awarded PhD degrees in the convocation.
