4th Convocation, IIT Ropar - November 3, 2015
Description
The fourth Convocation of IIT Ropar was held on November 3, 2015. The ceremony was declared open by Ms. Lila Poonawalla, Chairperson of the Board of Governors. Prof. Das, the Director, introduced the Chief Guest, Dr. T. Ramasami, Former Secretary, Department of Science & Technology (2006 – 2015). Dr. Ramasami highlighted his contributions to science, including the INSPIRE programme and research in Chromium Chemistry. He emphasized the importance of “minds-on” and “hands-on” approaches and teamwork in technological leadership. Prof. Das presented the Institute’s report, covering academics, research output, infrastructure, industrial consultancy, administration, and alumni affairs. Ms. Lila Poonawalla addressed the gathering, appreciating IIT Ropar’s rapid campus development and new academic programs, including PG courses, Civil Engineering UG, and Ph.D. programs. She also inspired students, discussing challenges like disappointment, frustration, unfairness, and isolation, and how overcoming them strengthens character. Dr. Ramasami congratulated students and encouraged them to contribute to India’s growth by developing innovative solutions to real-world problems. Degrees were formally awarded by the Chairman of the Senate, with medals presented by the Chief Guest and Chairperson, BoG. President of India’s Gold Medal and Director’s Gold Medal for highest CGPA in B.Tech. went to Pulkit Gera (EE). Institute Silver Medals were awarded to Gourav Bansal (CSE) and R. Rohan Prasad (ME) for highest CGPA in their respective programs.
