The program emphasizes interdisciplinary research in energy, electronics, quantum technologies, and sustainable materials for future advancements.

Our Vision

The DREAMS consortium envisions revolutionizing materials research by accelerating progress in both functional and structural materials, paving the way for rapid technological advancements across diverse disciplines. The consortium is inherently dynamic and will evolve beyond the immediate objectives of this proposal. The adaptability of DREAMS will dynamically cater to the evolving needs of researchers across the SPOKE institutions. It will serve as a nucleus for interdisciplinary research, supporting and uplifting institutions within the collaborative network. We envision that the formation of the DREAMS consortium through the ANRF-PAIR scheme will nucleate a large-scale collaborative and mentoring scheme which will grow beyond the lifecycle of the proposal beyond the initial 7 spoke organizations through symbiotic education and research schemes.

Our mission is to foster interdisciplinary collaboration among leading institutions, enabling innovation through shared knowledge, infrastructure, and expertise. We aim to accelerate the development of high-performance, cost-effective, and sustainable materials using advanced methodologies such as nanoscale engineering, thin-film technologies, and data-driven approaches including AI and machine learning. Through strong academia–industry partnerships, the consortium strives to translate research into real-world solutions, contributing to national priorities like Aatmanirbhar Bharat and global technological advancement. Ultimately, DREAMS seeks to build a robust research ecosystem, empower emerging institutions, and create long-term impact through innovation, education, and collaborative excellence.

Research Areas

The research proposal focuses on developing advanced functional materials to address critical challenges in energy, electronics, quantum technologies, and mobility, aligning with India’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. It emphasizes innovative material design using cutting-edge techniques such as nanoscale structuring, thin-film deposition, and additive manufacturing to enhance performance, sustainability, and cost efficiency. Key areas include solid-state batteries, lightweight alloys, catalysts for clean energy, and materials for net-zero carbon solutions. The proposal integrates research on bulk and low-dimensional materials for structural, electronic, photonic, and energy applications through interconnected verticals. Advanced electronic and quantum materials, including 2D semiconductors and vdW heterostructures, support next-generation devices and communication technologies. AI and machine learning accelerate material discovery and optimization, while strong academia–industry collaboration fosters innovation. Overall, the initiative aims to strengthen India’s R&D ecosystem and contribute to sustainable, high-impact technological advancements. The research program is structured into three IRGs (Interdisciplinary Research Groups).
