Leadership Summit 2022: A step towards building a forum to delimitate the Inter-IIT boundaries. We envision involving the student leaders to start conversations and the policymakers to build a conducive environment that will benefit the country in the long run.

Theme : To bridge the gap between graduate and undergraduate technocrats
About Us
With passion in our hearts, and a smile on our face we aim to make the world a better place.
At IIT Ropar we aim to create not just engineers, but future leaders of our nation.
PRELUDE

The name of IITs is synonymous with excellence and innovation. The exchange of ideas and knowledge here, among the keen to learn individuals and the experienced ones like - postgraduates and professors, blossoms into solutions that lead to the betterment of the society as a whole.

The leadership summit aims to shed light on the challenges students face due to the rapidly changing socio-educational frameworks and put forward resolutions that would help the students excel in the face of this colossal paradigm shift.

By engaging in discussion and brainstorming reforms, we can keep up with the trends and lead the other institutes to do the same. As student leaders, we aim to formulate solutions that can be implemented across all institutions with the help of our ministry since it is our duty, as one of the premier institutes of the nation, to benefit every individual that faces the same challenge. The objective of this three-day leadership summit is to bridge the gap between the UG and the PG students in our institutes. We intend to put forward the concerns of the students to the Ministry of Education to include the highest authorities in the thick of things

REVIVAL OF CULTURE AMONG IITIANS (PRE-COVID IIT LIFE)

Even after the outbreak of the COVID19 virus has subsided, we have seen that it has been challenging to return to the world as it was before. Despite efforts to revive the lost offline experiences, the outcomes have not been satisfactory enough. Although the virtual world has its advantages, we can't deny the importance of classroom teaching, peer interactions, and senior-junior involvement. This lack of hands-on experience has deteriorated the social aspect of our lives.

We envision discussing the following aspects

What measures can be taken to encourage more and more students to be involved in cultural activities?

What components of our organizations (societies, clubs) need to be improved to adapt for smoother functioning in the current scenario?

In what ways can we restore the gap between specific batches owing to the pandemic?

MENTORSHIP PROGRAMS BY THE IIT FRATERNITY

Not all students are fortunate enough to experience the sophisticated professionalism across all fronts that we do. This leads to a growing disparity between the skills levels and future prospects of scholars. This hindrance is especially faced by students from tier-2 and tier-3 colleges across the country.

The onus of trying to bridge this gap falls on us and only by collaborating and exchanging ideas, we can provide equal footing and opportunities to many who deserve it. Mentorship by PHD scholars to these students from nearby colleges is one of the leads. The conclave aims to bring forth this problem :

How do we provide assistance/guidance to colleges in vicinity for the creation of a college culture conducive to all-round development of individuals?
How do we encourage and conduct collaborative interdisciplinary projects with other colleges and universities?
Will incentivising PhD students to promote and mentor students in technological literacy, development in skills, and an overall evolution in the quality of individuals of a nearby institution be a good idea?
MENTORING OF UG STUDENTS BY PHD STUDENTS (ACADEMICS, RESEARCH AND EXTRA CURRICULAR)

B. Tech. students have a lot to learn, from their academics to general career advice – and a right mentor can indeed make or break their student life. A research scholar can very well guide their junior B. Tech. students, being more experienced and used to the college system.

One of the aims of the Leadership Summit 2022 is to further develop and strengthen this relationship between Ph. D. scholars and B. Tech students, so that the knowledge and experience of PG students can be blended with the enthusiasm and creativity of UG students to create wonders.

At this summit we are seeking ways to bring these two student groups closer together:
01
In what further ways can this bond be strengthened that both learn something from each other.
02
What are the improvements and suggestions in the current BTech Project system?
03
How do we encourage more interaction and communication between the two groups by creating a mandatory interdisciplinary project after the second year?
04
How will the mentorship be done by the already busy and occupied research scholars?
PREPARE UG STUDENTS FOR PLACEMENTS IN CORE COMPANIES

We've seen a major movement in engineering students' interests over the previous few decades, from core to SDE and non-core positions. Despite being a fascinating and insightful area, the core industry is short on competent workforce due to dwindling youth demand for possibilities. This could be attributed to various reasons like -

  • Students' lack of awareness about opportunities in core fields
  • Less salary packages
  • Lack of facilities and incentives as compared to software engineers.

The necessity of the hour is to elevate and promote the benefits of the core industry, as well as the opportunities that exist inside it. We need to reclaim our place in the core industry by changing students' and hiring employers' perspectives and strengthening our “Make in India” policy. As a result, the main focus of this summit will be on the following points:

01

How can the immense potential of the curious minds be guided and motivated in the proper direction?

02

What steps should be implemented in collaboration with government authorities to pique people's interest in this field?

03

What all can be negotiated with the core companies in order to attract them to hire more people with good packages?

TO STOP BRAIN-DRAIN FROM THE COUNTRY (JOBS/HIGHER EDUCATION)

More than one-eighth of the IIT graduates move out of our country for further studies and better job opportunities that results in loss of talent and this impacts the nation in terms of economic development and overall growth. Lack of funding for research, degraded quality of life and non-recognition of their work are some of the reasons responsible for brain drain.

Our summit needs to address and discuss the further mentioned problems:

How to encourage and utilize the inflow of knowledge, experience, and funds of our competent individuals from abroad into our country to the greatest degree?
What are the ramifications of such migration, particularly on the educational system, the spirit of their fellow scholars, and the country's development?
Discuss the fiscal and production externalities of brain drain.
How can the startup culture be resurrected in India so that Indians, rather than becoming CEOs of large foreign corporations, form MNCs in their own country?
