You finally seized it! Congratulations on cracking one of the most arduous exams: JEE Advanced. Those sleepless nights and/or the early morning hustles, rush, stress over studies, consistency, and hard work finally paid off! Now it is time to relax and enjoy the fruits of your triumph and forbearance. Well, you are finally an IITian! Have you ever wondered what you will do once you enter the campus? Probably during your JEE prep or even before that, most of you must have made a to-do list of what you’ll do once you get an IIT, and the same might have motivated you as well. But have you ever pondered over your thoughts? Are you curious if anything on my to-do list can grab me into some trouble? If anything like this has ever hit you, then this blog is for you!
As a crisp start in your academics and life, it is imperative for you to know the dos and don’ts as a freshman. Of course, you are diligent enough to have a basic idea about it, but why not explore more? Let’s first look into the ‘Dos’ as an IITian. What makes IIT stand out from all other engineering colleges in India? The placements, packages, and salary play an essential role here, but other than that, IITs are well known for 360 degrees development of their students. This can be accomplished when you balance your academics and extracurricular activities perfectly. Yes! You read it right!
Along with academics, you have to evolve yourselves into some non-scholastic activities. It can be anything related to your interests or something you want to deliberately learn. We got clubs for the same. Despite your interests, it is advisable to attend every club's orientation and introductory sessions because that’s how you are going to explore! You can later decide which club to join accordingly. Secondly, interact well enough with your seniors and super-seniors as they are undoubtedly the best source for career guidance, academics, club activities, and even your personal life. Thirdly, study dynamically and cover all the courses properly in your first year so that at the end of your freshman year, you have a clear vision of your career and what domain you have to enter.
Ok, I guess enough with the Dos; let’s talk about the Don’ts too now. Try to attend every lecture, don’t miss any. Missing lectures is undoubtedly not cool unless you have a very important clash or some health issue. An upper hand in attending lectures is that you don’t have to worry much during midsems, endsems, and quizzes preparation. Never misbehave with your professors and seniors, it is one of the most unpleasant mistakes one can commit. Interact at your best with your batchmates, and try not to stay on the inferior side. Do not discriminate amongst branches. Interact with batchmates and seniors of all branches.
Well, these are the essential Dos and Don’ts which, in my opinion, everyone should follow. Lastly, Welcome, dear freshers! I know that you will definitely rock your life at IIT! All the best for your journey ahead!
