ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF FACULTY ADVISORS
- It is the responsibility of Faculty Advisor to well-versed with academic rules and regulations and go through the Handbook of Information for respective batches.
- Advice on courses: At the time of registration, faculty advisor has to guide students to finalize the academic programme, keeping in view factors, such as, minimum/maximum numbers of total credits, past performance, backlog of courses, SGPA/CGPA, pre-requisite, work load and student’s interests, amongst others.

The following are the special provisions for academically weaker students.
- If a student requests, faculty advisor can allow 1-1.5 credits over and above the prescribed limit, if he/she feels that the student will be able to take these credits for completion of his/her course requirement.
- Faculty advisor can recommend to waive off the pre-requisite for any particular course, if a student has gone through it once in a regular semester, if it effects the future courses.

Probation/Restart:
If a student is placed on probation/restart, faculty advisor shall monitor the student’s progress.- He/she has to advise the student on the coursesand credits required to be taken.
- Maintain proper records of course plan, separately, for each student.
- Faculty advisor shall ask students to prepare a course chart/plan of courses for helping the students in completion of course requirements/degree within the stipulated time, if he/she is placed on probation.
- Such plans to be forwarded to the respectiveDean (Academics) through HoD.
- Talk to parents/guardians of the students and have a meeting with them, if faculty advisor feels necessary.
- Faculty Advisors shall closely monitor the performance and attendance of probation students in order to ensure a corrective measure in respect of cases where the students are continuously absent from the classes. Further, the assistance of Student Counsellor may be taken wherever required for corrective action. For this, the faculty advisor can ask the concerned instructor, the Attendance/Marks/other feedback.
- Special measures for academically weaker reserved categorystudents: Faculty advisors are encouraged to have one to one meeting with each student at regular intervals. A faculty advisor can have special attention to advise them on academic and non-academic matters.A faculty advisor shall closely monitor the performance of such students. The performance report of such students’ needs to be forwarded to Dean (Academics) through HoD.
- Faculty Advisors shall give his/her recommendations if a student wants to withdraw the semester on medical grounds.

Student-Faculty Advisor meetings, as per academic calendar, shall be conducted by Faculty Advisor. The report of the same in the prescribed format (given at Annexure-I) should be forwarded to HoD and concerned Dean within a week after the meeting for information/further action
- 1st Student-Faculty Advisor Meeting to be held to see, if the course instructors have provided the course outline, grading policy, policy on missed quizzes, any misconduct during class / quiz / assignments, and any other initial issues in the course to be discussed.
- 2nd Student-Faculty Advisor Meeting to see the progress of the course, monitor the mid-sem exam performance based on the data requested & received from course instructors, and give suggestions to the students for improvement.
- Courses required by the students during summer semester, based on their performance, shall also be collected by the Faculty Advisor and forwarded to the respective Dean (Academics) through HoD.
- Faculty Advisors shall take care of the timely disposal of online registration requests on AIMS during registration/Add-Drop period.
- Faculty Advisors should closely monitor the progress of final year students to make sure that they should complete this degree within stipulated time.
- Faculty Advisors are encouraged to have one to one meeting with each student at regular intervals. They may approach the course instructor if students require any specific attention/support in a particular course.
- Any other work not mentioned above, required for helping academically a student to improve his/her performance shall be taken up by the Faculty Advisor by consulting HoD/concerned Dean.
- To foster a healthy and friendly atmosphere for discussions, the faculty advisor may arrange tea/coffee with snacks during Student-Faculty Advisor (SFA–1 and SFA–2) meetings.
