Surface Engineering of Cutting Tools for Advanced and Sustainable Machining Applications


Surface engineering of cutting tools used in machining processes can be exploited to significantly alter the local tribological conditions at the tool-chip and tool-workpiece interfaces. This has significant application potential not only from the perspective of sustainable machining, where the focus is on eliminating or minimizing the use of conventional cutting fluids, but also from the perspective of workpiece surface integrity and functional performance.
