What is Plagiarism?

Plagiarism is the use of another person's words, ideas, figures, data, code, or creative work without proper acknowledgment. It may be intentional or unintentional, but both forms can lead to manuscript rejection, disciplinary action, and damage to academic reputation.

  • Self-plagiarism
  • Uncited use of figures or tables

Best Practices

  • Cite every borrowed idea
  • Use quotation marks for exact text
  • Paraphrase in your own words
  • Maintain reference records
  • Check similarity before submission

AI Writing Detection

In addition to similarity analysis, Nalanda Library provides AI writing detection reports generated through Turnitin. These reports estimate the proportion of text that may have been produced using generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, or similar systems.

Similarity and AI Reports: Researchers may email their thesis, dissertation, manuscript, conference paper, or project report to Nalanda Library to obtain both a Turnitin Similarity Report and an AI Writing Detection Report. The reports are intended to help authors review originality, strengthen paraphrasing, and ensure appropriate academic attribution before formal submission.
Important: A similarity score is not automatically an indication of plagiarism. Properly quoted and cited material may appear in the report. Researchers should review each match carefully and ensure that all borrowed content is appropriately acknowledged.
