Institute cum Library Smart ID Card

Institute cum Library Smart ID Card based on RFID Technology.

Nalanda Library provides a RFID based Institute cum Library Smart ID Card to all Regular Employees of IIT Ropar including Faculty Members. Procedure involves following 3 steps:
1. Fill the application form and get it signed by the HoD
2. Submit the filled form at Establishment Section.
3. The form gets necessary administrative approval from the Establishment and O/o Dean, FAA and reaches the Library for further processing.
Library Team will reach out to you through email for verification of details, share soft copy of your ID Card and upon confirmation from your end, the ID card is printed.

Borrowing Privileges

Issue & Renewal

A Faculty Member can borrow 12 books for a period of maximum 6 months. For renewal of books, you can come to the Library and use self-check kiosk for renewal else write an email to Library Helpdesk at libraryhelpdesk[at]iirpr[dot]ac[dot]in, in case you are out of campus.

Suggest a New Book

Procedure

For a rich collection development, Library welcomes suggestion of new books from Faculty Members. Procedure involves
1. Fill Book Indent Form.
2. Get it signed by the HoD.
3. Submit the form at the Acquisition Section, Ground Floor, Nalanda Library.

Expected Timeline

The expected arrival of Book depends upon number of factors like availability with the vendor, publisher processing time, publishing delays, stock availability, procurement procedures, order processing time, shipping and courier transit time, transportation or logistics issues, unforeseen supply chain disruptions, and other circumstances beyond our control. We strive to bring a suggested book on the Library shelf at early as possible. To know the exact status of suggested book, contact Dr. Harpreet Kaur, Incharge, Acquisition Section at library[at]iitpr[dot]ac[dot]in.

When the book arrives

Whenever a suggested book arrives in the Library and technical processing is done (usually done the same day), Indentor receives an email for the same.

Academic Support

Books for borrowing

These are available for borrowing for a period of 6 months from the date of issue. A maximum of 12 General Books can be issued by Faculty Members at once. Click here to search for General Books. The General Books are located on the Ground Floor of the Library inside Stack Area 1 and Stack Area 2.

Reference Books

Faculty Members are allowed to issue Reference Books. Click here to scroll through the Referene Collection. The Reference Section is located on the First Floor of the Library.

Subject/Research Guide

The purpose of Subject Guides is to have a department specific complete information of resources. Check out Subject Guides available online.
Subject guides enables Faculty Members to know different resources that a Library provides like e-Resources, e-Books, Print Books and more. Content in the subject guides are strictly department specific.
Faculty Members may also recommend this portal to students who struggle in finding their department specific information at single place.

Citing a work or citation involves giving full credit to any piece of information borrowed from another dataset therefore upholding integrity and avoiding plagiarism. To Learn about different citation styles, Zotero and Mendeley provide guides for writing bibliographies.

Publications Dashboard

Nalanda Library has developed an analytics portal called Publications Dashboard. This unique portal captures all the publications of IIT Ropar researchers, published since inception of IIT Ropar, till today.
The Publications Dashboard serves as a valuable resource for Faculty Members by enabling them to explore the Institute's research output, identify researchers working in specific domains, discover potential collaborators, and gain insights into the evolving research landscape of IIT Ropar.

Nalanda Library has subscribed to Turnitin - a similarity and AI detection tool. We provide dedicated Turnitin Instructor accounts to Faculty Members. If you are a newly joined Faculty, drop an email to Dr. Dinesh KS, Librarian at dinesh[at]iitrpr[dot]ac[dot]in.

Grammarly - AI Writing Assistant

Using Grammarly

Nalanda Library has subscribed to Grammarly, an AI-powered writing assistance tool that helps improve writing quality by providing spelling and grammar checks, punctuation corrections, style and clarity suggestions, tone adjustments, and vocabulary enhancement. It is a valuable resource for preparing research papers, reports, emails, and other academic and professional documents. First Time users need to sign up on Grammarly using their Official Institute Email ID. If you face any issues while using Grammarly, contact Dr. Tarvinder Singh Handa, Assistant Library at subscriptions[at]iitpr[dot]ac[dot]in.

PhD Thesis Support

Institute PhD Theses on Shodhganga Portal

Nalanda Library uploads all the PhD theses submitted by outgoing PhD Scholars (after 2021) on the Shodhganga Portal - created and managed by INFLIBNET. The uploaded theses are open access and in public domain accessible to anyone without any login authentication. To access Shodhganga Portal, click here.

Embargo Request

At times, PhD Scholars decide to put embargo on their thesis uploaded on the Shodhganga Portal. The request for Embargo must be got approved by the competent authority to enable the Library in processing embargo request. Procedure involves:
1. Filling Embargo Application.
2. Getting application approved by the competent authority.
3. Submitting approved application form at the Subscription Section, Ground Floor, Nalanda Library.

Study Spaces & Facilities

We provide multiple Reading places, namely Stack Area 1 and Stack Area 2 (both on the Ground Floor of Library), and on the First Floor - Reference Section, Journal & Nook Area, Common Sphere, Technobooth in addition to Wi-Fi, charging points, and extended access of Library space during semester exams.

Workshops & Learning Sessions

Workshops by Library

Nalanda Library conducts both offline training sessions, webinars, hands-on demonstrations and workshops on a wide range of topics, including research article publishing, literature searching, reference management, plagiarism awareness, AI tools for research, research data management, scholarly communication, open access, and author workshops conducted by leading publishers. Students are notified through the Bulletin-Board email whenever such events are scheduled.

Database Training

Nalanda Library organizes online and offline database training sessions, hands-on workshops, and vendor-led demonstrations to help users effectively access and utilize subscribed electronic resources. These sessions cover advanced search techniques, literature discovery, citation tracking, research analytics, full-text retrieval, and the effective use of databases such as Scopus, IEEE Xplore, and other scholarly resources. Students are notified through the Bulletin-Board email whenever such events are scheduled.
