General Instructions

Library Etiquette

It is important for you as a library user to respect study spaces and shared resources placed inside Library premises. Students who are visiting the Library must be aware of complete Library Rules. To access Library Rules, click here.

Searching a Book through Library Catalog (OPAC)

Search and locate books by call number written on the spine of the book. The print copy of the book(s) are available only in the Library. Therefore, a student must visit the Library for borrowing a book. To start searching, click here.

Institute cum Library Smart ID Card

Getting your RFID based Institute cum Library Smart ID Card.

Nalanda Library provides a RFID based Institute cum Library Smart ID Card to each PhD Scholar. Procedure involves following 3 steps:
1. Students receive an email (on official institute email) for filling up a google form asking basic details like recent photo, blood group, name etc.
2. After processing the details received therein, Library staff sends soft copy of ID cards to individual student on their official Institute email.
3. Student verifies the details in that email and therefore receives an email for collecting the hard copy of the same.

Borrowing Privileges

Issue & Renewal

A PhD Scholar can borrow General Books (maximum 5 at once) for 28 days and 1 Reference Book (only 1 at a time) and renew them by visiting the Library anytime 24x7.

Overdues

It is very important to return books on time and avoid overdue fines. An overdue fine is calculated at Rs. 2 per day for 1st week, Rs. 4 per day for 2nd week, Rs. 8 per day for 3rd week and so on and so forth.

Lost Books

Lost book should be intimated to the Library at the earliest and the same has to be replaced by either the same or latest edition as per Library rules.

If by any means a PhD scholar is unable to return or renew borrowed books, he/she must always send a mail to the Library at libraryhelpdesk[at]iitrpr[dot]ac[dot]in with a request for online renewal of the same. The Library will not be help responsible for delay in return/renewal and for the overdue fine acrrued on the same..

Suggest a New Book

Procedure

For a rich collection development, Library encourages Students to suggest new books. Procedure involves
1. Fill Book Indent Form.
2. Get it signed by your HoD.
3. Submit the form at the Acquisition Section, Ground Floor, Nalanda Library.

Expected Timeline

The expected arrival of Book depends upon number of factors like availability with the vendor, publisher processing time, publishing delays, stock availability, procurement procedures, order processing time, shipping and courier transit time, transportation or logistics issues, unforeseen supply chain disruptions, and other circumstances beyond our control. We strive to bring a suggested book on the Library shelf at early as possible. When the book arrives

Whenever a suggested book arrives in the Library and technical processing is done (usually done the same day), Indentor receives an email for the same.

Academic Support

General Books

These are available for borrowing to PhD Scholars for a period of 28 days from the date of issue. A maximum of 5 General Books can be issued by PhD Scholars at once. Click here to search for Circulation textbooks. The General Books are located in the Ground Floor of the Library inside Stack Area 1 and Stack Area 2.

Reference Books

PhD Scholars can issue Reference Books, maximum 1 copy at a time. Click here to scroll through the Referene Collection.The Reference Section is located on the First Floor of the Library.

We have Subject Guides that has department specific complete information of resources. Check out Subject Guides available online.
Subject Guides enable Ph.D. scholars to easily access the various resources provided by the Library, including e-Resources, e-Books, print books, databases, journals, and other subject-specific materials. The content of each subject guide is curated specifically for individual academic departments, making it easier for scholars to discover relevant information and efficiently navigate their research journey throughout their Ph.D. program

Getting Started with Research

Find Research Papers

Nalanda Library provide access to IEEE Xplore, ACM DL, Springer, Scopus and ScienceDirect among alot of other e-resources.The comprehensive list of all subscribed e-resources is available online. Click here to access.
Research Scholars can make use of these e-resources particularly databases like Scopus, IEEE Explore to search latest research published in their field.

Citation Basics

Citing a work or citation involves giving full credit to any piece of information borrowed from another dataset therefore upholding integrity and avoiding plagiarism. To Learn about different citation styles, Zotero and Mendeley provide guides for writing bibliographies.

Publications Dashboard

Nalanda Library has developed an analytics portal called Publications Dashboard. This unique portal captures all the publications of IIT Ropar researchers, published since inception of IIT Ropar, till today.
The Publications Dashboard serves as a valuable resource for PhD scholars by enabling them to explore the Institute's research output, identify researchers working in specific domains, discover potential collaborators, and gain insights into the evolving research landscape of IIT Ropar.

Similarity and AI Detection

Similarity & AI Detection

Nalanda Library has subscribed to Turnitin - a similarity and AI detection tool. We provide similarity and AI reports on requests through email. PhD Scholars can send their document to Library for similarity and AI reports.

Important Note: Similarity and AI detection reports require careful handling to avoid report mix-ups or inadvertent sharing with the wrong student. PhD Scholars are requested not to pressure the staff for immediate reports or repeatedly send urgent requests, as this may compromise the accuracy and proper handling of the process.

Grammarly - AI Writing Assistant

Using Grammarly

Nalanda Library has subscribed to Grammarly, an AI-powered writing assistance tool that helps improve writing quality by providing spelling and grammar checks, punctuation corrections, style and clarity suggestions, tone adjustments, and vocabulary enhancement. It is a valuable resource for preparing research papers, reports, emails, and other academic and professional documents. First Time users need to sign up on Grammarly using their Official Institute Email ID. PhD Thesis Support

Institute PhD Theses on Shodhganga Portal

Nalanda Library uploads all the PhD theses submitted by outgoing PhD Scholars (after 2021) on the Shodhganga Portal - created and managed by INFLIBNET. The uploaded theses are open access and in public domain accessible to anyone without any login authentication. To access Shodhganga Portal, click here.

Thesis format for submission at Library

Outgoing PhD Scholars need to submit a soft copy of their PhD thesis in a pendrive. Click here to see the format of submitted thesis.

Embargo Request

Faculty members may recommend few parts of a thesis of outgoing PhD scholar for embargo on Shodhganga (restricted access in public domain) The request for Embargo must be got approved by the competent authority to enable the Library in processing embargo request. Procedure involves:
1. Filling Embargo Application.
2. Getting application approved by the competent authority.
3. Submitting approved application form at the Subscription Section, Ground Floor, Nalanda Library.

Study Spaces & Facilities

We provide multiple Reading places, namely Stack Area 1 and Stack Area 2 (both on the Ground Floor of Library), and on the First Floor - Reference Section, Journal & Nook Area, Common Sphere, Technobooth in addition to Wi-Fi, charging points, and extended access of Library space during semester exams.

Workshops & Learning Sessions

Workshops by Library

Nalanda Library conducts both offline training sessions, webinars, hands-on demonstrations and workshops on a wide range of topics, including research article publishing, literature searching, reference management, plagiarism awareness, AI tools for research, research data management, scholarly communication, open access, and author workshops conducted by leading publishers. Students are notified through the Bulletin-Board email whenever such events are scheduled.

Database Training

Nalanda Library organizes online and offline database training sessions, hands-on workshops, and vendor-led demonstrations to help users effectively access and utilize subscribed electronic resources. These sessions cover advanced search techniques, literature discovery, citation tracking, research analytics, full-text retrieval, and the effective use of databases such as Scopus, IEEE Xplore, and other scholarly resources. Students are notified through the Bulletin-Board email whenever such events are scheduled.

How many books can a PhD scholar issue?

A PhD scholar can issue 6 [5 General Books for 28 days and 1 Reference Book for 7 days] at a time.

Can I renew books online?

No, for renewal of books you need to visit the Library alongwith the borrowed books. You can use self-check kiosk for renewal.

How do I suggest a new book?

Use the Book Recommendation Form avaiable online.
